TESLA INFOTAINMENT STUDY
Exploring Tesla Infotainment Unit as a Family Entertainment Console
In 2012, as part of a research class, I focused on designing a prototype for a future Tesla screen concept, specifically envisioned as an entertainment console. My primary focus was on creating a platform that could enhance family interactions during car journeys, transforming what is often seen as idle travel time into a shared, engaging experience. The aim was to bring both adults and children together by integrating entertainment features that catered to the diverse needs of the family.
The design process started with in-depth research into how families interact during car rides and how technology could support these interactions. Through user interviews and personas, I identified the need for an intuitive, family-friendly interface. I created storyboards and scenarios that demonstrated how different age groups would interact with the entertainment system—whether watching movies, playing games, or engaging with educational content.
From this, I moved on to developing detailed sketches and user flows, which were tested through multiple iterations of user testing. The feedback helped refine the interface to ensure it was not only engaging but also easy for users of all ages to operate. Each design iteration focused on minimizing distractions for the driver while maximizing the interactive potential for passengers, thus making car trips more interactive and enjoyable for everyone.
By focusing on these detailed aspects of family needs and entertainment preferences, the final concept was a system that allowed for seamless engagement, fostering shared experiences during car journeys.
